This is one of the most hardy, versatile grasses available on the market. It is drought tolerant, salt tolerant and is tough enough to survive over winter in iron urns and planters. This grass has a very upright form developing wheat coloured plumes in mid-summer which remain throughout the winter. It is adaptable from clay to sandy soil and offers soft texture to any garden.
Growing Conditions: They grow in full sun to part shade.
Size: This grass has a very upright form, mature size with plumes is 4’ tall, 2’ spread.
Hardiness: Adaptable from zones 3-9; this is great news for those of us in southern Ontario (zone 5) because it allows us to grow ‘Karl’ in urns or planters over winter and it will survive!
Where to Plant: This grass looks great planted in groups, nothing looks better than seeing the wind rustle through grass plumes on a windy day. It also looks good in containers or works well once dried in floral arrangements.
Plant Partners: Great companions are Black-Eyed Susans in the summer months or Chrysanthemums and Kale for fall plantings.
